Mrs Oates' Y12 Business Studies Students have been watching the Facebook documentary as part of the work on Entrepreneurial characteristics.

The following exam question was set: To what extent do you believe that Mark Zuckerburg's characteristics have lead to the success of Facebook? [8 marks]

The students will be posting their answers to this question tomorrow and will be working on developing their 'application' skills.

  1. Entrepreneurial characteristics are qualities in a entrepreneur that influences and motivates the business to achieve their goals and inspire the consumers with their product idea, in Marks case; the idea of Social Networking which is Facebook.

Mark has an obvious ambition with his business that he launched when he was 19 years old, thinking about such an idea at a very early age shows his interest in it. Even-thought other social networking companies started (twitter, Google +, ect) His business rapidly grew from a small social network to a PLC.

Mark shows hes a risk taker as he does product trials on his website. When businesses asked to launch the third party applications and advertisements, he took a risk of whether Facebook users would like it or not. Risk taking also is shown at the very first deal that he got, He denied the 1 Billion $ offer from yahoo when he was years old, this shows that he is more ambitious than materialistic. He then denies the 15 Billion offer from Microsoft which shows how much he is holding onto his business.

Mark takes Facebook very seriously and he wishes to improve it in every creative way possible. His "Facebook" office is a very comforting place to employees, this motivates them to come to work in a good mood, he also sits in his office around every body else, which makes him no different that other employees, this way employees feel like they are working "with him" rather than "for him" this motivates them to be more productive and trusted. His leadership is more of Democratic / Lassies Fer, this shows that he considers his employees ideas into count which can motivate them in a way that they feel trusted, he also delegates most of the day to day tasks to them, this can benefit as the employees may be closer to consumers on facebook.

However the big attraction may not be just because of him, It could be because of the Applications that launched themselfs on facebook, for example Play Fish launched various games on Facebook which may have attracted many people to join in Facebook. Even celebrities may have played a part in getting people into Facebook just to get in-touch with them. I also think that since there is a lot of delegation, most of the credit of the success of his business may be from the creativity of his employees.
